STARTALK-Chinese Science Immersion Training, Aurora Colorado
Global Village Academy, an Aurora charter school focused on language immersion, was awarded a 2009 STARTALK grant which supports teacher training for K-16 Mandarin language teachers. Welcome all teachers of Chinese/Mandarin who may be interested in this unique professional development opportunity to apply. Focus: Teaching language through content based immersion, with an emphasis on Colorado Science standards. Eligible Teachers: K-16 Heritage, private, public and post-secondary Mandarin teachers  Stipend: $1000 Dates: June 15-19 with a one week practicum in July.

The Indiana University summer Flagship Chinese Language Institute (FCLI) to be held in Bloomington, Indiana, will offer 8 hours of undergraduate credit to 30 learners of Chinese with or without prior Chinese language experience. This intensive, eight-week residential student program will allow participants to experience a full spectrum of active learning experiences from interpretive to interpersonal and presentational communication, from culture to comparison, and from community exploration to individual projects of connection with other areas of interest. Students will live in a campus residence center while working in a variety of campus settings including classrooms, computer clusters, and language labs. Cost. The total program fee is approximately $3,900.The Confucius Institute Headquarters (CIH Hanban) provides each participant a scholarship. Each CIH(Hanban) scholarship recipient is responsible for $1500 in remaining program tuition plus international travel expenses.
